The Benefits of Walking

Walking: Here For A Good Time, AND A Long Time

People who walk regularly see improved physical condition, which directly correlates to a longer lifespan. A study from the American Cancer Society found that even low levels of walking are linked with lower mortality. Walk more and live longer!

You Can't Buy Happiness, But You Can Walk To It!

Walking is found to lift daily mood, and fill you with natural endorphins! In fact, a study from Walking for Health stated that walking, especially in groups, lowers depression, relieves stress, and enhances sense of well being! With spring having sprung, there is no better cure for a bad day than a walk out in the sun!

Walking the Walk Helps You Talk the Talk!

Walking isn't only good for your body--it helps your mind as well. It has been found to increase blood flow to the brain, improving focus and making you feel sharper! Tired of forgetting that word that's just on the tip of your tongue? Maybe a walk will help you remember!

Walking is Free!

In today's world of acai bowls and kale infused muffins (surprisingly tasty), it seems that taking care of yourself means neglecting your wallet. But that doesn't have to be the case! One of the best ways to stay in shape is through walking, and best of all, it's completely free! All you need is a pair of shoes and the willingness to start.

Final Thoughts

In short, the benefits of walking are many: better physical and mental health, longer lifespan, and completely free. One of my favorite ways to start the day is with a short walk to the beach to watch the waves and, with the weather being better, I'm excited to check out some of the trails in the Santa Barbara mountains! If you have any favorite walks you would like to share, are interested in a group walk, or just athletic training in general, contact us!

One More Thought

How come you can "take a walk" but you have to "go for a run"?
